Little White Lies by Brianna Baker and F. Bowman Hastie, III. Soho Teen, $18.99; ISBN 978-1-61695-515-1. In this YA novel, a privileged, high-achieving black 17-year-old secretly enlists the services of a 41-year-old white ghostwriter, to pose as her on her blog, the success of which has made her unable to maintain it on her own.

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard. HarperTeen, $19.99; ISBN 978-0-06-231066-8. In the next installment of Aveyard’s dystopian YA series, which has already been optioned for film, the struggle between a rebel army and the blood-segregated world they’ve always known escalates.

Spring by David A. Carter. Abrams Appleseed, $14.95; ISBN 978-1-4197-1912-7. Floral pop-ups appear on every spread in Carter’s seasonal follow-up to 2015’s Winter.

Bloom by Doreen Cronin, illus. by David Small. Atheneum, $17.99; ISBN 978-1-4424-0620-9. Cronin (Click, Clack, Moo) and Small (Glamourpuss) team up for this subversive fairy tale set in a kingdom whose palace is made entirely of glass and whose inhabitants scorn dirt and untidiness. The book earned a starred review from PW.

When Spring Comes by Kevin Henkes, illus. by Laura Dronzek. Greenwillow, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-06-233139-7. The husband-and-wife team of Henkes and Dronzek introduce and examine the unfolding of spring.

Mabel Jones and the Forbidden City by Will Mabbitt, illus. by Ross Collins. Viking, $16.99; ISBN 978-0-451-47197-0. The latest in this middle grade series follows the protagonist on a mission to rescue her kidnapped little sister.

Peep and Egg: I’m Not Hatching by Laura Gehl, illus. by Joyce Wan. Farrar, Straus and Giroux, $16.99; ISBN 978-0-374-30121-7. In this picture book, a chick named Peep can’t wait for her sibling to hatch, but Egg has plenty of reasons to stay in his shell.

In the latest installment of the Tuesdays at the Castle series for middle graders, Princess Celie and her friends, with the help of some magical creatures, must find a dangerous wizard who has hidden himself in the castle.

My Dog’s a Chicken by Susan McElroy Montanari, illus. by Anne Wilsdorf. Random/Schwartz & Wade, $16.99; ISBN 978-0-385-38490-2. Lula Mae wants a dog, but “these are hard times,” and Mama says, “You’ve got to make do.” So Lula Mae picks out the most promising hen in her farmyard – the one that “strutted around like it owned the place” – and names it Pookie.

A Beginner’s Guide to Bear Spotting by Michelle Robinson, illus. by David Roberts. Bloomsbury, $16.99; ISBN 978-1-68119-026-6. In this picture book, a boy ignores the unhelpful narrator in favor of his own field guide when trying to find bears.

If I Had a Gryphon by Vikki VanSickle, illus. by Cale Atkinson. Tundra, $16.99; ISBN 978-1-77049-809-9. In this picture book, a girl who is bored with her new hamster imagines life with an array of mythological creatures as pets.
