Scholastic and game developer Blizzard are teaming up to create a new middle grade book series based on its internationally popular World of Warcraft game franchise. With simultaneous launch planned in the U.S., U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and Canada in November 2016, the hardcover series is set to publish a new title each fall to conclude the trilogy in fall 2018. Comic book author and animation writer Greg Weisman will pen the series. The book will include full-page sketches from Blizzard artist Samwise Didier, and the full-color cover illustration will be from Blizzard artist Stephane Belin.

The series follows 12-year-old Aramar Thorne, on an adventure through the land of Azeroth with a sea captain who teaches him how to navigate the world, and his sword. Along his adventure, Aramar meets the diverse denizens of Azeroth, all while being led by his missing father’s compass, which leads him in a direction that isn’t due north.

Chris Metzen, Blizzard’s svp of story development, is looking forward to the opportunity to share the World of Warcraft with a new demographic, and thinks Weisman is just the author to do so, saying in a release that Weisman “is an accomplished writer who’s really gotten to the heart and soul of Warcraft with the characters he’s developed here.”
