Hitting bookshelves this week are a picture book mashup of martial arts and fairy tales, a middle grade novel set in a world divided between those with talents and those without, and the conclusion to a bestselling YA novel.

The 5th Wave: The Last Star by Rick Yancey. Putnam, $18.99; ISBN 978-0-399-16243-5. This final installment of Yancey’s 5th Wave trilogy again unspools from multiple perspectives, keeping readers as off-balance as the characters, who must adjust to a world where they can trust no one.

Cage: The Hunt by Megan Shepherd. HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-06-224308-9. The second book in the Hunt series follows three teens as they try to escape being hunted as human captives.

A Clatter of Jars by Lisa Graff. Philomel, $16.99; ISBN 978-0-399-17499-5. In this companion to A Tangle of Knots (2013), Graff revisits a world divided by those with magical “Talents” and those without, and the inevitable strain it places on relationships.

Cures for Heartbreak by Margo Rabb. HarperCollins, $9.99 paper; ISBN 978-0-06-247156-7. In this YA novel, 15-year-old Mia grapples with complicated emotions that befall her family after the death of her mother.

Hello, My Name Is Octicorn by Kevin Diller and Justin Lowe, illus. by Binny Talib. HarperCollins/Balzer + Bray, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-06-238793-6. In this picture book, Octi the octicorn has a horn on his head and four legs, and wants a friend.

Hensel & Gretel: Ninja Chicks by Corey Rosen Schwartz and Rebecca J. Gomez, illus. by Dan Santat. Putnam, $17.99; ISBN 978-0-399-17626-5. Gomez (What About Moose?) joins the team behind The Three Ninja Pigs and Ninja Red Riding Hood for a fractured fairy tale that delivers more martial arts mayhem.
