We’re With the (Bat) Band

While on an East Coast tour for Bats in the Band, the fourth book in Brian Lies’s picture book series starring the flying mammals, the author visited Sherman’s Books and Stationery in Portland, Me. While on tour, Lies (back l.) drives his own bat-themed car, which features bat musicians on the roof and a PVC pipe organ that kids can play. Joining Lies for the August 13 event was HMH sales rep Katie McGarry (back r.), her grandfather, and four nephews.

Have Frog, Will Travel

William Ritter, author of the debut YA fantasy novel Jackaby (Algonquin Young Readers), stopped at Grass Roots Books & Music in Corvallis, Ore., during his promotional pre-tour of the Pacific Northwest – which spanned August 13-14 and included stops at 10 bookstores and two dinners with booksellers in Oregon and Washington. At Grassroots, Ritter (center) was joined by booksellers Jack Wolcott and Claire Ments, as well as his traveling companion, Ogden the frog, a character from the book.

Once in a ‘Lifetime’

The Choking Game, a Lifetime original movie based on Diana Lopez’s YA novel, Choke (Scholastic, 2012), premiered in Los Angeles on July 26. On hand were lead actors Freya Tinglet (l.), who stars as Taryn in the film, and Alexa Steele (center), who stars as Nina. Joining the cast members for the event was Lopez’s agent at Full Circle Literary, Stefanie Von Borstel (r.). The movie, directed by Lane Shefter Bishop, will air on Lifetime on August 23.
