Global Kids Connect, a new children's publishing conference co-sponsored by Publishers Weekly and the Bologna Book Fair, is set to begin tomorrow, December 2, in New York City.

The conference, to be held at the Grand Masonic Lodge on West 23rd St., has two main features: a full-day program on Wednesday covering numerous aspects of the children's book market, and an additional half-day intensive program about doing business in China, to be held on Thursday morning, December 3..

Wednesday's schedule includes breakout sessions that address various topics—editorial, rights, licensing—and how publishers can expand their global reach and maximize profits from all sources. Among the speakers are Barbara Marcus, president and publisher of Random House Children’s Books U.S.; Kate Wilson of Nosy Crow; Ginger Clark of Curtis Brown, Ltd.; Michael Kelly of Hasbro; and Eric Huang of Made in Me.

On Thursday morning, a half-day session focuses on the intricacies of doing business in China. Led by Trustbridge Publishing’s editor-in-chief Xiaoyan (Renee) Huang, the “deep dive” will place particular emphasis on understanding and working with cultural and storytelling differences.

A Wednesday evening party, also held at the Grand Lodge, celebrates the PW Children’s Starred Reviews Issue's authors and illustrators, many of whom will be in attendance as the guests of Publishers Weekly. The cocktail party runs 6 – 8 p.m. Tickets may be purchased separately. If you are a 2015 Starred Review author, illustrator or translator, your ticket is free.

Tickets to the Global Kids Connect events are available on an à la carte basis, and for full-day conference registrants, the party is included.
