Katherine "Katy" Uhry Darr, former owner of the Bookmark in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., and a founding member of the original Southeastern Booksellers (now Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance), died on October 25; she was 79.
The Bookmark was a cornerstone in the Ft. Lauderdale community, and Darr was a strong supporter of new bookstores that opened in the area. After closing the Bookmark, Darr went on to a second career in art education and worked at the Museum of Art of Ft. Lauderdale, and also as associate curator of education at the Boca Raton Museum of Art.
