Now in its 11th year in Portsmouth, N.H., RiverRun Bookstore expanded across the border into Southern Maine this weekend with a soft opening for its second location, RiverRun Foreside, named for the store’s location in the Foreside section of downtown Kittery. The size of a living room—with a bank vault—the new store stocks both new and used books, and in two weeks will have a coffee shop next door, Lil’s Cafe.

When he announced the new store in mid-June, RiverRun founder Tom Holbrook explained on the store’s blog why he felt the need for the store to grow: “Because we care about our Maine customers and don’t want to lose them. We love Portsmouth, but we understand that between bridge repair, parking, and general hubbub, it can be hard to shop here sometimes.”
