Unit sales of print books rose 5% in the week ended June 22, 2014, compared to the similar week in 2013, at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan—the fourth consecutive week that book sales have had a year-over-year increase. Adult fiction had one of its strongest performances to date, and while sales were down 6% in the week, that is well below the 13% decline that the category has recorded for the year to date. Janet Evanovich led the sales charge in adult fiction, with her books running one-two in the week. Top Secret Twenty-One debuted at #1 in the category, selling nearly 89,000 hardcover copies in the week. The mass market edition of Takedown Twenty finished second, selling more than 35,000 copies. The Silkworm, written by J.K. Rowling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, got off to a modest start, selling over 21,000 copies in its first week. Adult nonfiction also had a solid week, although no new book stood out. Rather, a 5% increase in the aggregate sales of the top 100 titles in the category led to a 4% increase in week 25, compared to the week ended June 23, 2013. Strong overall sales in June helped boost total print book sales by 1% for the year to date, with the retail channel posting a 2% gain over 2013 so far.
