Diary of a Housewife Producer

Talk show host and former Bravo network executive Andy Cohen built his career on reality TV—The Real Housewives, Top Chef, and many others. He modeled his new book, The Andy Cohen Diaries, after the journals of another Andy with an interesting take on reality—Andy Warhol. Cohen’s Diaries sold more than 13K units in its first week, earning the #7 spot on our Hardcover Nonfiction list. That beats his first book, 2012’s Most Talkative, which moved 8,522 copies in its initial week. Soon, we’ll see how Cohen does against the 25th-anniversary edition of Warhol’s journals, due out December 2.

‘41’ at #1

Debuting in the top spot on our Hardcover Nonfiction list, George W. Bush’s 41: A Portrait of My Father, was released a week before the recent midterm elections. Clearly, the 43rd president likes that sort of timing: his previous book, the memoir Decision Points, pubbed a week before the 2010 midterms. Here’s how the two fared their first weeks out.

Nobel Effort

When Patrick Modiano won the 2014 Nobel Prize for Literature on October 9, Yale University Press, which had been planning a February 2015 release date for his novella collection Suspended Sentences, bumped up publication to November 11. Since then, the book has sold 2,688 copies, according to Nielsen BookScan. That may not be enough to land a spot on our Trade Paper list, but context is everything. Sales of his next bestselling book, 2004’s Missing Person, have increased exponentially, from a release-to-date count of 482 copies to sales last week of 1,133. All told, about 75% of the author’s U.S. sales over the past decade are directly attributable to the Nobel win, which has made 2014 a better year for Mondiano than the previous 10 years—combined.
