Unit sales of print books sold at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan rose 3% in the week ended Apr. 24, 2016, over the comparable week in 2015. The adult nonfiction category had the strongest performance, with units up 7% over the week ended Apr. 26, 2015. The Rainbow Comes and Goes by Anderson Cooper took over the #1 slot in the category in the week, selling more than 15,000 copies. The prior week’s top adult nonfiction seller, Hamilton: The Revolution by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jeremy McCarter, sank to 24th spot as many outlets ran out of stock. After selling more than 38,000 copies in its first week on sale, Hamilton sold about 6,300 copies in the second week as publisher Grand Central worked to get additional copies to stores. Unit sales in juvenile fiction rose 3% in the week, with the top three bestsellers remaining the same as the previous week. Oh, The Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss, a popular graduation gift, stayed #1 with more than 18,000 copies sold. Despite no change in the top four bestsellers in the juvenile nonfiction segment compared to the prior week, units rose 2% over the week ended Apr. 26, 2015. The book that had the biggest gain was Where Is Baby’s Belly Button by Karen Katz, which sold almost 3,500 copies, pushing it into fifth place on the juvenile nonfiction list from 17th spot in the previous week. Unit sales in the adult fiction segment fell 1% in the week. The category had a new #1 bestseller with David Baldacci’s The Last Mile leading the way with more than 57,000 copies of the hardcover sold. The paperback edition of Mary Higgins Clark’s The Melody Lingers On sold more than 21,000 copies in its first week on sale, landing it in the third spot on the adult fiction bestsellers list.
