Unit sales of print books increased 7% in the week ended May 22, 2016, over the similar week in 2015 at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. The adult nonfiction segment had the strongest gains, with unit sales up 12% over the week ended May 24, 2015. The increase in the category was led by two new books that topped the bestsellers list: Bare Bones by Bobby Bones was the #1 adult nonfiction seller, selling more than 19,000 copies in its first week; and The Gene by Siddhartha Mukherjee was in second place on the adult nonfiction list, selling just under 13,000 copies in its first week. Unit sales in juvenile nonfiction rose 11% over 2015. Seuss-isms! by Dr. Seuss remained at #1 on the category list, selling more than 11,000 copies. National Geographic Kids Almanac 2017 had a surge in sales, selling more than 5,000 copies and moving the title into fourth place on the juvenile nonfiction bestsellers list. Unit sales in juvenile fiction increased 4% in the week. Dr. Seuss had the top-selling title in this segment as well, with Oh, the Places You’ll Go selling almost 48,000 copies, more than double that of second place The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan, which sold about 20,000 copies. Unit sales in adult fiction rose by less than 1% in the week. Three editions of Me Before You by Jojo Moyes sold a combined total of approximately 85,000 copies and were in the top three spots on the adult fiction bestsellers list.
