6/18 Comix NSFW, Lecture by Charles Hatfield in Boulder, CO

Charles Hatfield, comics scholar and author of Alternative Comics: An Emerging Literature and Hand of Fire, discusses comics as confessional with the work of cartoonist Justin Green, who pioneered autobiographical comics with 1972’s Binky Brown Meets the Holy Virgin Mary. This event will take place from 4-5:30 p.m. in room W-100 in the Museums Collection Building at the University of Boulder, Colorado. This event is free to the public.


6/19: Witch Doctor: Mal Practice Release Party in Portland, OR

To celebrate the release of the second volume of Witch Doctor, creators Brandon Seifert and Lukas Ketner will be signing copies of the book from 7-10 p.m. at Portland Things from Another World in Portland, Oregon. The series, published by Image Comics’ Skybound imprint, follows Dr. Vincent Morrow, a supernatural physician who for the first time finds himself a patient and victim of the shadowy forces he conjures. 6/22 East London Comics &Arts Festival in London, United Kingdom

The East London Comics & Arts Festival (ELCAF), now in its second year, showcasing the comics and graphics scene in London and the UK as well as international talent, at the York Hall Leaisure Centre from 10 a.m.–7 p.m. on Saturday, June 22nd. Programming includes illustration workshops, drawing battles, a tattoo parlor, lectures on comics and publishing, creator Q&As, screenings and more. Guests include Luke Pearson (Hilda series), Jon McNaught (Dockwood), Andy Rementer (New York Magazine) and Jack Teagle (Fight). Tickets are £3 for adult, free admission for children under 16.
