8/21: Rutu Modan in Conversation with Hannah Berry in London, UK

As part of Comica, the London International Comics Festival, graphic novelist Rutu Modan will be discussing her newest work, The Property, with Hannah Berry at 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Foyles Gallery in Foyles Bookshop in London. Modan, who earned international acclaim with Exit Wounds, will explain her creative process on The Property, her first full-length graphic novel. The book follows Regina Segal, an elderly woman who returns to Poland after living abroad to reclaim a piece of property lost during World War II. Once there, she is confronted with old family secrets in a country far different from what she remembers. Tickets are £6 and available here. 8/22-8/25: The Projects 2 in Portland, OR

Support, behold and partake in experimental comics at The Projects 2, a 4-day long gathering of artists celebrating creative expression and community at the Independent Publishing Resource Center and other locations throughout Portland, Oregon. The 19th annual Fan Expo Canada, Canada’s largest (and North America’s third largest) pop culture event is taking place from Thursday, August 22nd to Sunday, August 25th at the North and South Buildings of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. 8/24: Brandon Graham Signing and Appearance in Seattle, WA

Fan favorite cartoonist Brandon Graham will be signing copies of his new art book, Walrus (PictureBox), from 6-9 p.m. at the Fantagraphics Bookstore in Seattle. With innovative and cerebral works like King City, Prophet and Multiple Warheads, Graham has established himself as one of the most unique cartoonists working today.
