9/17: Conversation with Liza Donnelly and Rutu Modan in New York, NY

The Society of Illustrators, in partnership with Israel's Office of Cultural Affairs presents a conversation with cartoonists Liza Donelly and Rutu Modan from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Teusday, September 17th. In addition to her prolific as an editorial cartoonist and an author of over 20 books, Liza Donnelly travels the globe promoting cartooning, free speech and women's rights as a Cultural Envoy for the US State Department. A cartoonist and a teacher at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem (where she is a graduate), Rutu Modan has also been a writer, editor whose illustrations have been published in The New York Times, Le Monde and The New Yorker. Her first solo graphic novel, Exit Wounds, earned her international acclaim, and her latest work, The Property, (Drawn & Quarterly) was released in May. 9/17: Alex Schubert Signing and Release Party in Brooklyn, NY

Join Kansas City-based cartoonist Alex Schubert in celebrating the release of his new book, Blobby Boys (Koyama Press), on Tuesday, September 17th from 7-9 p.m. at Desert Island in Brooklyn, NY. Blobby Boys follows a band of slimy young punks who tour the country playing gigs and getting into misadventures. This event is free to the public. 9/18: Art Spiegelman Book Launch Party in Brooklyn, NY

To mark the release of his new book Co-Mix: A Retrospective of Comics, Graphics, and Scraps (Drawn & Quarterly) comics legend Art Spiegelman will be signing copies of the book at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 18 at Greenlight Bookstore in Brooklyn, NY. As the only comic artist to win the Pulitzer Prize for Maus, Spiegelman has been one of the industry's most revered and influential figures for over three decades. In Co-Mix, he chronicles his career with a plethora of artwork, sketches and essays. This even is free to the public, although purchase of Co-Mix ($39.95) is required for the signing. 9/18: Peter Milligan & Brendan McCarthy Launch Party in London, U.K.

Join fan favorite creators, writer Peter Milligan and artist Brendan McCarthy for a special talk and launch party for their new book, The Best of Milligan & McCarthy (Dark Horse) on Wednesday, September 18th from 7:30-9 p.m. at Gosh! Comics in London. Both Milligan, (Hellblazer, Red Lanterns) and McCarthy (Zaucer of Zilk, Judge Dredd) have been active in the U.K. comics scene since the mid-80s and their work is often lauded for its mind-bending subject matter and imagination. 9/20-9/22: Wizard World Ohio Comic Con in Columbus, OH

Wizard World's next stop is in Columbus, Ohio, bringing with it a slate of comic book and pop culture happenings and to-dos. Programming includes signings, exhibitors, artist spotlights, creator panels and workshops, cosplay contest, screenings and more. Rose City Comic Con, Portland's largest comic book convention, kicks off on Saturday, September 21 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, OR.
