10/30: Dean Haspiel in New York, NY

Celebrate Halloween early with cartoonist Dean Haspiel for a signing of his new series, The Fox (Archie), at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30th at JHU Comic Books in New York, New York. Co-written by Mark Waid and illustrated by Haspiel, The Fox is a modernization of the pulp hero and the latest in Archie's relaunch of the Red Circle Comics line. The series centers on Paul Patten Jr., photographer and son of the original Fox, who moonlights as an acrobatic crime fighter. Both Waid and Haspiel promise classic superhero action, but also a story that eventually veers into the strange. This event is free to the public. Comics and games creators and enthusiasts from around the world will converge for Lucca Comics and Games 2013 from October 31st to November 3rd at the Former Barracks Lorenzini in Lucca, Italy. The show boasts a robust schedule of comics events and a lineup of internationally renowned cartoonists. Programming includes creator spotlights and showcases, industry panels, film screenings, publishing roundtables, Project Contest, Translation Slam and more. The Heroes' Discussion Group is celebrating Halloween by diving into the Mignola-verse, the connected worlds of Hellboy and B.P.R.D., on Saturday, November 2nd at 1 p.m. at Heroes Aren't Hard to Find in Charlotte, North Carolina. 11/2: Stan Sakai in Portland, OR

As part of the museum's Samurai! exhibition, join award-winning cartoonist Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo, 47 Ronin) and Dark Horse Comics founder and president Mike Richardson for an afternoon discussing Sakai's work and the broad fascination with samurai culture and imagery on Saturday, November 2nd from 12-3 p.m. at the Portland Art Museum in Portland, Oregon. First, Sakai will speak about his career in comics and the inspiration and influences behind his long-running "rabbit samurai" series. Then at 1:30, Sakai will sit down with Richardson and talk about 47 Ronin, their recent comic collaboration that retells the famous Japanese tale that epitomizes the way of the samurai. Sakai will also be signing copies of his books, and guests will receive an exclusive free download of the new mobile game of Usagi Yojimbo: Way of the Ronin. Tickets are $20, free for museum members.
