After it was announced that Ken Michaels will be leaving his post as president of Hachette Book Group to assume the newly created role of global chief operating officer at Macmillan Science and Education, executive director of the Book Industry Study Group (BISG) Len Vlahos confirmed that Michaels will remain chair of BISG for his full two-year term, ending September 2014.

“Ken has been a dynamic, results-focused chairperson," said Vlahos. "We congratulate him on his new appointment and are very pleased that he will continue as chair of BISG."

In his role as chair of BISG, Michaels will continue to support the group’s evaluation of its branding and mission and will announce its new mission statement at the BISG annual meeting on September 27 at the Yale Club in New York City. "As the only trade association representing every sector of the publishing industry, [BISG] plays a vital role in creating a more informed and efficient industry and I am looking forward to what we can accomplish through the remainder of my term,” said Michaels.

Other speakers at the meeting include Madeline McIntosh, president and COO of Penguin Random House U.S.; Ron Schlosser, executive chairman of McGraw-Hill Higher Education; and Simon Ross, managing director of Cambridge University Press. Writer Clive Thompson will the keynote speaker for the event.
