|Red Line Editorial is looking for a Managing Editor to join our dynamic staff of print and online publishing professionals.|
This position will give the right candidate the opportunity to lead key aspects of our editorial projects. This position requires an ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining keen attention to detail.
Red Line Editorial is known for the high quality of the content we develop for the educational market. The managing editor will play a key role in maintaining that reputation.
This position will have hands-on involvement in a variety of areas, including:
-- Overseeing the book development process from manuscripts through page layout and proof stages
-- Overseeing internal editors and collaborating with our design/production staff
-- Overseeing external authors and vendors
-- Shaping new series from the prototype phase; creating new series specifications in accordance with market needs; creating author guidelines
-- Critically evaluating manuscripts submitted by internal editors
-- Performing final file checks on editors’ projects before approving them for press
-- Mentoring editorial staff members effectively and providing training as needed
-- Establishing and maintaining in-house style guidelines
The managing editor will work on books, marketing materials, and digital projects. This role will be responsible for overseeing quality on assigned work as well as the work of colleagues. A library or education background is a plus.
The ideal candidate will possess at minimum:
-- A four-year degree in English, journalism, mass communication, or similar
-- Five years of experience working on books and/or educational materials geared toward a variety of grade levels
-- One to two years of experience managing staff, workflows, and projects
-- A demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with various departments, vendors, and clients
-- A strong commitment to achieving deadlines in a fast-paced environment
-- A tremendous attention to every last detail
-- A demonstrated ability to handle a wide variety of tasks without sacrificing quality
-- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, Adobe Acrobat, FTPs, and Google docs
-- Proficiency with the Chicago Manual of Style 16th edition and MLA
-- Solid grammar skills
