Description | A small, dynamic, and multi-award-winning publisher, the South Dakota State Historical Society Press seeks a forward-looking individual to act as part of its leadership team, with special responsibility for electronic publishing and technologies and for the marketing, promotion, and sales activities of the press. The responsibilities of the position include: the marketing of all books and journals published by the South Dakota State Historical Society Press, including ebooks; devising and managing the Press’s social media and electronic marketing; managing the Press’s websites; planning and producing author events; creating and producing seasonal catalogues; writing cover copy for books; brand recognition and development; design and production of direct mail, advertising, other promotional items, and exhibit displays; establishing working relationships with print, TV, radio, and online media, booksellers, distributors, and wholesalers; and overseeing the accounting and order-fulfillment departments. The marketing director/associate editor reports to the Director of the Press and serves on the team that sets press policies and publishing directions. The successful candidate will have a minimum of a four-year degree from an accredited institution in a related field, preferably with some experience of book and/or journal publishing or an avocation for history and/or the book industry. A commitment to excellence in writing and editing, a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of social media practices, techniques, and trends, and a desire to stay abreast of current and new publishing trends, particularly in relation to social media, new publishing technologies, ebooks, and mobile and web-based publishing are of the utmost importance. Knowledge of Adobe Master Suite, XML, photography, and videography preferred. Salary dependent upon experience |
