Description | JOB DESCRIPTION: The Editor position in our Zondervan gift department will deal with the new development of Zondervan Gift line. Help in idea development and execution of refreshing Zondervan gift and devotional backlist as well as development of new products created by Zondervan authors based on existing properties. Further duties include, but are not limited to: Assisting in analyzing Zondervan backlist and trade product to create the development of a line of gift products. Help in idea development and execution of refreshing Zondervan gift and devotional backlist, as well as development of new products created by Zondervan authors based on existing properties. Meet with authors and agents to discuss new ideas. Create pub board proposals, and once proforma has passed, completes the deal point memo. Maintain editorial schedule for books (approximately 20 titles per year). Attend weekly production meetings to communicate title, schedule, and other change. Deliver books on schedule. Work with freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and typesetters. Stay within budgets for editorial expenses (copyeditors, proofreaders, typesetters). Work with authors and agents to secure permissions, releases, and endorsements and to obtain approval for text design, copyediting, cover design, and cover text. Provide digi ready manuscripts to other departments, such as Publicity, Packaging, Grupo, and Foreign Rights. Proofread and approve book cover copy and catalog copy; writes and proofreads tip sheets. Create error free, industry-leading products. SKILLS: Desired candidate will have the ability to develop, track, and meet budgets and editorial schedules; the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; and the ability to manage book projects without support. A working knowledge and belief in Christian doctrine and theology. The ability to direct the work of copyeditors and proofreaders. The skills to do Internet research and a working knowledge of MS Office software. Ability to write pub board proposals. Keen attention to detail and experience with the most recent editions of the Chicago Manual of Style. |
