The Gift Books division of Hallmark is not only one of the company's fastest growing divisions, it's also changing the face of publishing with innovative new formats. As a part of this talented team, you will work on a variety of book product from adult gift books to children's books and programs, such as Recordable Storybooks; and Interactive Story Books and Story Buddies. You will have the opportunity to help shape the future of this dynamic division, lending your editing, storytelling, and creative skills to the creation of compelling stories, characters, formats, and programs.

The Editor will manage a number of both innovative children's books and adult gift books. The Editor will be responsible for hiring freelance writers, working with internal writing resources, and collaborating with designers to create the best possible books. Innovative products require liasing with engineering and sound studios, as well. The Editor is also responsible for the emotional essence of each book and/or program, serving as the voice for the consumer, interpreting social and consumer trends, anticipating future consumer needs and translating that information at the SKU level.

We are looking for someone who is:
⁃A strategic thinker: Understanding of how messaging and emotion influences the consumer experience
⁃Highly conceptual: This job requires emotions, language, and social trends into saleable product
⁃A team player: We work in a collaborative environment across multiple disciplines (design, writing, marketing, etc.)
⁃A problem solver: Organization and planning skills are a necessity in this fast-paced environment
⁃A confident critiquer of new writing; adept rewriter of existing writing

Basic Qualifications:
⁃2+years in a writer or editor position

Preferred Qualifications:
⁃BA in English, Journalism, Advertising, Publishing or related field.
⁃The editor must demonstrate strong copywriting and editing skills; the ability to achieve marketing objectives while connecting with consumers’ emotional needs; strong organizational skills; comfort with ambiguity, frequent changes, and tight deadlines.
⁃Editorial experience and a working knowledge of the publishing industry.
⁃An enthusiastic appreciation for gift books is preferred.
⁃Electronic/digital book experience is preferred.
⁃Experience with sound/music/voice/scripting is preferred.
⁃Aesthetic judgment: Grammar/language skills
⁃Strong organizational skills: ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects at one time
⁃Understanding of marketplace/consumer need: translate consumer insights into product solutions
⁃Creativity: ability to communicate emotions, convey feelings and express yourself in all life's situations
