PW may have predicted that baseball books have been striking out recently, but that didn't stop Villard publisher David Rosenthal from catching RLR agent Chris Tomasino's pitch to publish the next book (Villard published his last in 1987) by announcer Tim McCarver. McCarver has tentatively titled the book How to Watch Baseball. And although pro golfer Steve Elkington didn't beat Tiger Woods at the Masters, he did manage to snag a book contract the previous week. Ballantine editor-in-chief Judith Curr, who coincidentally shares the same Australian hometown as Elkington, acquired the tentatively titled Fluid Power: Elkington's Guide to Better Golf from Literary Group International's Scott Waxman, for a rumored low six figures, and plans to publish in spring 1998. And as for Woods's historic Masters win, that event will be included in the SMP updated paperback edition of Tim Rosaforte's Tiger Woods: The Making of a Champion, out to stores with a 350,000 first printing in July.
