It's the management-tweaking mascot's third national bestseller in just about one year -- a record that few if any CEOs can match. This time, The Dilbert Future: Thriving on Stupidity in the 21st Century was launched by HarperBusiness with a 500,000-copy first printing. One of the more intriguing aspects of Scott Adams's promotion/publicity tour is his "virtual bookstore appearances" -- Dilbert's creator gets to stay home in Danville, Calif., and -- via an Intel videophone hook-up -- can meet and greet his many fans at Barnes &Noble and Borders outlets in other parts of the country. The author has interviews and satellite tours scheduled through July 1. While Adams is already on the fast track after just a few weeks on sale, he has a ways to go to match the tenure of his first two books: The Dilbert Principle stayed on PW's list for 39 weeks, while Dogbert's Top Secret Management Handbook enjoyed a 14-week run.
