Summertime always seems to be a good season for fiction and that's certainly true for the last full week in July. Heating up right below the top 15 are a number of new fiction titles. In ranked order, the strongest contenders are: The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy (Random House); Meg by Steve Alten (Doubleday); Missing Pieces by Joy Fielding (Doubleday); Cimarron Rose by James Lee Burke (Hyperion); and Fatal Terrain by Dale Brown (Putnam).
