"This will be the most avidly awaited memoir ever to come out of the world of rock music," said Little, Brown v-p and executive editor Michael Pietsch about his finally confirmed acquisition of the memoir by Who member Pete Townshend. Certainly Pietsch has been waiting to announce the world rights deal, reportedly in the seven-figure range and months in negotiation with agent Ed Victor. The memoir is scheduled for publication in the fall 1999, with the house careful to note that Townshend will write the book himself. No surprise there: Townshend has already published a collection of short stories, Horse's Neck, (Houghton Mifflin, 1985), and was for many years an acquiring editor for British publisher Faber &Faber.
