Kellerman Lands Again
Daisy Maryles -- 10/13/97
Jonathan Kellerman hits the mass market bestseller chart with The Clinic, published by Bantam about 10 months after the hardcover debut. The initial 1,350,000-copy paperback printing is being supported by an ad campaign that includes TV ads on GMA and Jeopardy in New York and L.A. during the week of October 20, as well as advertising in USA Today's October 23 book section. The Clinic features a 16-page preview of the next Alex Delaware novel, Survival of the Fittest, which Bantam will publish in hardcover next month with a 325,000-copy first printing. It's Kellerman's 13th novel, his 12th published by Bantam. He will continue his stellar career with Random House, which paid him $20 to $25 million for a hard/soft five-book deal. Bantam's continued benefits will no doubt be a very salable Kellerman backlist.
