Calvin Reid -- 10/27/97
In a synergistic alliance combining Internet technology and a focus on the growth of "distance learning" programs, Addison-Wesley Longman and Pearson sister company Headline Digital Media are joining forces to publish learning and teaching systems with "brand-name" universities.
Michael Hodges, a spokesperson for AWL, told PW the two companies plan to partner with well-known universities to create "curriculum-based degree programs" that can be accessed by the Internet or other noncampus-situated media and designed for the growing numbers of older, working students.AWL will handle content, marketing and sales, and Headline will design software and technical requirements. Hodges expects the first product systems to be available from a major university by 1998.
