Weld Turns Writer
Judy Quinn -- 11/10/97
Jesse Helms and others may have blocked former Massachusetts governor William F. Weld from becoming ambassador to Mexico, but now Weld (who once claimed he quit being governor because he was "bored) has a new life as a political suspense writer for S&S. In a release appropriately issued on election day, the house announced its acquisition of Weld's first novel, Mackerel by Moonlight, featuring a Boston D.A. The book, tentatively scheduled for September 1998 publication, was acquired by S&S editor Alice Mayhew in a deal negotiated by agent Peter Matson.
