Walker: The House of Change
Paul Nathan -- 11/24/97
The Civil War seems to spark more interest today than it has in a long time. With Walker just publishing Monitor: The Story of the Legendary Civil War Ironclad and the Man Whose Invention Changed the Course of History by James Tertius deKay, the company's new rights manger, Jacqueline Murphy, has staged her first reprint auction. Six bidders participated. The winning bid, by Peter Borland at Ballantine, was $200,000.
In addition, Murphy has sold paperback rights in this spring's Cod: A Biography of the Fish That Changed the World to Kristine Puopolo at Penguin for $35,000. Foreign rights have been picked up for Japan, Canada, the British Commonwealth, Germany and Korea.

Monitor has also been tapped by BOMC and QPB, while Cod is to be featured by QPB.
