Ubleis Has New Job In Germany
Herbert R. Lottman -- 11/24/97
Hans-Peter Ubleis, until now managing director and publisher at Munich's Heyne, Germany's largest paperback house and probably the biggest buyer of U.S. titles for translation in hard and softcovers, is joining the Weltbild Trading Publishing Group as president and publisher. A familiar face in New York as well as at BEA conventions, Ubleis will also be a managing director and partner of Schneekluth, the group's well-known trade fiction imprint based in Munich. The trade area consists of eight publishing houses, among them Naturbuch Verlag and Steiger Verlag, with overall sales exceeding $500 million.
Headquartered in Augsburg, the group is emerging as Germany's leading mail-order business for books and other media. It runs a chain of bookshops and publishes a line of periodicals.
