Golden Makes Staff Cuts
Jim Milliot -- 2/9/98
Golden Books has begun tinkering with the operating structure it set up to help bring the publishing company back to profitability. In late January, Golden laid off 15 people in its New York office, as well as 20 employees at its facility in Racine, Wis.
Among those let go by Golden were three executives whom the company had lured from other publishers: Margie Chan v-p, director of business development, who had worked at Children's Television Workshop; Kaylee Davis, v-p and director of marketing, who had been with Barnes &Noble; and Elizabeth Doyle, editorial director for Novelty Books, who came from Planet Dexter. Also departing Golden was Lisa Gubernick, v-p for corporate communications.

Commenting on the staff cuts, a Golden spokesperson said in a prepared statement that "for the past two years, Golden has been in a turnaround. We've moved our headquarters, stabilized our core businesses and are now shifting are attention to marketing. We made these small adjustments to staffing to further efficiencies." -Jim Milliot
