This Horse is a Winner
Daisy Maryles, with Cindi Di Marzo -- 3/2/98
Booksellers can continue to look forward to strong sales for the six-month bestseller The Man Who Listens to Horses by Monty Roberts. Random House has 693,500 copies in print after 20 trips to press, and book and author are the subjects of a documentary film, Monty Roberts: A Real Horse Whisperer, that is to air during the March pledge drive on PBS-TV stations nationwide. In the course of this year, Roberts plans to perform as many as 72 demonstrations of his non-violent technique of "gentling" horses across the U.S. and will also make bookstore appearances in each location. The publisher reports that it's not uncommon for Roberts to autograph about 5000 books during one of these events; ticket proceeds generally benefit a local charity.
