Oprah G s Weil-ed
-- 4/6/98
Oprah was just what the doctor ordered, that is, according to bestselling author Dr. Andrew Weil. His appearance on her show March 27 was just the catalyst to propel both of his books -- the Knopf hardcover 8 Weeks to Optimum Health and the Fawcett Columbine trade paper Spontaneous Healing -- right back on the national charts. 8 Weeks had a run of 24 weeks in 1997 (plus two more weeks in January 1998) and even enjoyed a few weeks in the #1 spot. Knopf published the book in March with an initial printing of 300,000; 20 trips to press bring the total in-print figure to a robust 810,000 copies. Spontaneous Healing was on the list for a total of 35 weeks before the Oprah show, the last time back on November 3. It has a total of 925,000 copies in print. Ballantine is well poised for the paperback launch in May for 8 Weeks; planned initial first printing is 300,000.
