Maisy Takes The Stage
-- 5/4/98
Starting in spring 1999, Maisy the mouse will have an animated television show of her own on Nickelodeon, as part of the channel's Nick Jr. block of programming. Created by British author-illustrator Lucy Cousins, Maisy has appeared in a number of picture books, board books and novelty formats, all published in the U.S. by Candlewick, as well as in numerous sidelines items. Fittingly, perhaps, the show's theme song will be taken from another TV show featuring a well-known Lucy: I Love Lucy. Fifty-two half-hour segments have been ordered.
PolyGram Visual Programming and U.K.-based Walker Books (Candlewick's parent company) have reached an agreement that provides for production, finance and distribution of the new animated series worldwide. The agreement covers video and interactive products as well as television rights. Candlewick plans to preview a few episodes at its booth at BookExpo America, and there will be two new Maisy lift-the-flap books this fall, Happy Birthday, Maisy and Maisy at the Farm.
