Reuther to Leave Morrow Children's
Diane Patrick -- 5/25/98
David Reuther, senior v-p and editor-in-chief of Morrow Junior and publisher of Beech Tree Books and Lothrop, Lee and Shepard, is leaving the company after 16 years.
In a prepared statement, Reuther said that he is "developing a new way to publish good books for children, something that's not been tried before. I can't discuss this now, since all the details aren't in place yet, but I will be announcing my plans in the next few weeks." He added that Morrow and Lothrop were positioned "extremely well" for the future.

Asked if this move was related to the resignation of publisher Paul Fedorko and the naming of Michael Murphy to succeed him, Hearst Books vice-president and publisher Jacqueline Deval said the two events were "completely unrelated, just coincidental timing. The adult and children's divisions are quite separate." She added that the company was not yet ready to announce a replacement for Reuther.
