Hot Deals: Call Her Bridget Jones' Sister
Judy Quinn -- 8/3/98
"I've created a trend, v. good," could have been an entry in Bridget Jones's diary last week, what with Dutton/ NAL executive editor Audrey LaFehr's six-figure win, over three other interested publishers, of The Trials of Tiffany Trott, another tale of 30-something British singledom, written by British journalist Isabel Wolff. Like Bridget Jones' Diary author Helen Fielding, Wolff first published her heroine's travails as part of an ongoing newspaper column; Wolff's ran in the Saturday Telegraph for six months last year, after the still ongoing Jones series had made a splash. HarperCollins U.K. will publish Tiffany Trott on August 10 and has announced a 75,000 first printing, significant for that market. U.K. agent Clare Conville at A.P. Watt, who has also already sold German, Dutch and Italian rights to the book, conducted the U.S. auction, which also included Ballantine, St. Martin's and S&S. Penguin Putnam plans to issue Trott as a summer 1999 Onyx paperback, also the tentative date for the Penguin paperback release of Bridget Jones.
