Comix.com
Calvin Reid -- 8/31/98
PW's recent feature on comics neglected to mention their pervasive presence on the web. Sites like IComics feature news on alternative and mainstream comics as well as features on the development of electronic comics. And while there are scores of comics artists using the Web to promote their work, PW was impressed by two comics works and their sites: Charley Parker's Argon Zark, a beautifully illustrated, self-published (ArcLight) graphic novel about a dimension-hopping computer geek; and Stephen Kramer and Richard Torrey's The Dark Zone: Exploring the Secret World of Caves (from McGraw-Hill's Learning Triangle Press), a science adventure graphic novel featuring a multiethnic group of science-loving teens who call themselves the Black Hole Gang. Parker works completely digitally, drawing on the computer and posting each page to the site until he completes the projected three-book series (the first volume is available through K n and Baker &Taylor). Kramer told PW that he's received such "good feedback" about the site that he's about to add a special section to aid teachers in using it in the classroom.
