Copyright Clearance Center will soon be distributing $2.5 million to U.S. copyright holders, based on overseas photocopying of U.S. works.

The funds were collected by overseas reproduction rights organizations and forwarded to CCC without any identification of specific works or rights holders. CCC has developed a proxy model that will allow it to repatriate these previously undistributable fees directly to U.S. authors, other types of creators and publishers.

The majority of the payments will be divided equally between 3300 authors and 1600 publishers, including more than 1000 academic and textbook authors.
