The megamerger of Bertelsmann and Germany's international scientific publisher Springer has received the green light from the European Union's monopolies and mergers commission, which gives the giant Gütersloh a strong position in the U.S. market, thanks to Springer's growing American list (News, Nov. 23). Globally, Springer annually publishes more than 2000 new books and some 500 scientific journals, with an electronic service called Link offering Internet access to nearly 400 of these journal titles.
