Former Macmillan Publishing USA president Scott Flanders has been named head of the new company that will be formed when CDNOW merges with Columbia House to form an as yet unnamed music and video company. Flanders will initially oversee Columbia House as it prepares for the merger and then will take over as chairman and CEO of the new, publicly traded company. Flanders, who served as president of Macmillan Publishing USA from 1994 to 1998, left the company after the deal to sell the publisher to Hicks, Muse fell through.
