Dan Weiss, one of the first packagers of young adult titles--including the Sweet Valley High series--has sold Daniel Weiss Associates Inc. to two veteran company executives, Ann Brashares and Leslie Morgenstein. Brashares and Morgenstein have renamed the company 17th Street Productions and will serve as co-presidents; Brashares will oversee the creative aspects of the business, while Morgenstein will be responsible for administration and management.

Morgenstein said 17th Street will concentrate on its core YA business for about the next six months, but added that he expects to move into new areas at some point next year. "The market has changed. We'd like to get involved in more cutting edge projects." The company will consider entering the adult book market as well as getting into book management, which Morgenstein described as a combination of packaging and agenting.

Weiss told PW that after being involved in book packaging for nearly 20 years, he felt it was time for a change. He said that he hopes to develop some television projects and also may become a partner in a small publishing company.
