McGraw Named MHC Chairman
-- 12/20/99

The McGraw-Hill Cos. announced two major promotions earlier this month, both of which will take effect January 1, 2000. Harold McGraw III, president and CEO, has been elected chairman of the company, and Bob Evanson has been promoted to president of MHC's Educational and Professional Publishing Group. Evanson succeeds Jack Witmer, who is retiring.

McGraw, who is the great-grandson of the founder of MHC, joined the company in 1980 and became president and COO in 1993. In addition to his new duties as chairman, McGraw will remain president and CEO. He succeeds J Dionne, who has been chairman of MHC since 1988. Evanson joined MHC in 1992 and most recently served as executive v-p of the Educational and Professional Publishing Group. He will report directly to Harold McGraw.
