Scholastic, NBC To Cover 2000 Olympics for Kids
-- 1/24/00

Scholastic announced it has formed a partnership with NBC to produce a weekday television program to be broadcast from the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and aimed at preteens. The show will be called Scholastic at the Olympic Games and will air as part of NBC's Olympic coverage on MSNBC from September 18 to 29.

Hugh Roome, executive v-p at Scholastic, said the show would serve as an "educational springboard for segments about geography, anatomy, math, nutrition and current events" for the 26 million kids Scholastic reaches every year.

Judy Corman, a spokesperson for Scholastic, told PW that Scholastic will use all its various distribution channels to promote the new show, pointing to the company's magazines, book club catalogues, book fairs and Web site. The Scholastic/NBC alliance will also provide comprehensive interactive reporting on Olympic events for www.Scholastic.com and for www.NBCOlympics.com.
