Coady Named Picador USA
-- 5/1/00

Frances Coady, formerly publisher of Granta Books, has been named v-p and publisher of Picador USA. Coady succeeds George Witte, who was appointed editor-in-chief of St. Martin's Press last November (News, Nov. 22, 1999) and who has continued to oversee Picador during the search for his replacement.

Coady has extensive experience in the British publishing world. Before joining Granta, she was founding publisher of Vintage Paperbacks in the U.K. and was later named publisher of the literary division at Random House UK. At Picador, Coady will report to the Picador board, which includes Holtzbrinck president John Sargent, Holt president John Sterling, SMP president Sally Richardson and Farrar, Straus & Giroux publisher Jonathan Galassi. Coady is expected to join Picador May 8.
