In light of the growth of digital technology and the increasingly complex legal issues facing publishers today, Publishers Weekly and New York University will present a one-day continuing legal education seminar covering emerging trends in publishing law. The seminar is being taught through NYU's Law and Taxation division and will provide a broad overview of recent legal developments affecting the publishing industry, focusing on the specific practices and procedures of publishers, authors and editors.

Among those giving hour-long presentations on their area of expertise are Richard Dannay, senior partner, Cowan, Liebowitz & Latman, discussing copyright; Dori Ann Hansworth, partner, Squadron Ellenoff Plesent and Sheinfeld, covering libel; Alex Gigante, senior v-p for legal affairs and corporate counsel, Penguin Putnam, talking about trademarks; and Jessica Friedman, counsel, Reboul, MacMurray, Hewitt, Maynard & Kristol, on electronic publishing.

Co-chairs Steven Schragis, marketing director, Cahners Publishing, and attorney Lloyd Jassin will give a presentation on publishing contracts. The conference will take place Friday, April 6 in NYU's Midtown Center, 11 West 42nd Street, in New York City.
