Doug Bennett, longtime executive with Macmillan, has been named president and chief operating officer of iUniverse.com. In his new position, Bennett will oversee the day-to-day operations of the digital content technology and services company, succeeding iUniverse founder Richard Tam, who is relinquishing the role of president but remains CEO. Bennett will report to Tam.

Although Bennett most recently served as CEO of EoExchange, he had been president of Macmillan USA and oversaw the company's computer book publishing, Internet and software divisions. Bennett had previously been president of Macmillan's digital division. The move to iUniverse will reunite Bennett with former Macmillan executive Scott Flanders, now chairman of Columbia House and an iUniverse board member.

IUniverse recently received $21 million from Warburg Pincus, and sources said that as part of its investment, Warburg wanted an executive with more experience than the entrepreneurial Tam running the daily operations.
