Adobe Systems Inc. has announced the immediate availability of Acrobat Reader for Palm OS handheld devices. Previously, Acrobat could display files easily on large screens, like those on desktop computers and laptops, but was impractical on smaller screens.

Adobe PDF documents created using the new Acrobat 5.0 are automatically tagged with information on the document structure and organization, which allows the text to reflow to fit the smaller screen and still remain a readable size. Officials at Palm Inc. claim there are 13 million users of the company's operating system, including Handspring Visor and Sony handhelds.

The Acrobat Reader for Palm OS software is available for download free of charge from the Adobe.com Web site at www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html.
