Sweden's contribution to the international marketplace is the Göteborg International Book Fair, Scandinavia's largest, which takes place this year from September 13 to 16. (Göteborg is located in southwest Sweden across the strait from Denmark's Jutland peninsula.) More than 700 companies from 21 countries showed their materials last year in nearly 110,000 square feet of exhibition surface, and some 100,000 visitors were counted.

Although largely a cultural event targeting press and public and showcasing authors and the latest titles of the region's publishers, the fair runs an International Rights Center open to agents and publishers (and they don't have to be Scandinavian). Göteborg's fairgrounds are located in the center of town. A conference program running throughout the fair will include lectures and panels on (among other subjects) North American Indians and the Holocaust.
