Betty Cavanna, author of many books for adults and children, died at her home in France on August 15. She was 92.
Cavanna, who also wrote under the names Betsy Allen and Elizabeth Headley, had a 45-year career during which she wrote more than 80 books. Her early titles, like Going on Sixteen, The Boy Next Door, Accent on April, A Girl Can Dreamand Lasso Your Heart were popular teen romances. Cavanna started writing mysteries in the 1970s, and two of them were nominated for the Edgar Allan Poe Award. In the '60s, she also wrote a nonfiction series called Around the World Today, based on young people she had met while traveling. Cavanna published her final book, Banner Year, in 1987.
