The celebrated queen, executed on orders of her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I, is the subject of what promises to be a revelatory new biography, which was the subject of a heated two-day auction among six publishers that was won by executive editor Eamon Dolan at Houghton Mifflin. The author is Scottish historian John Guy, who says he has discovered primary source materials that give a much fuller, richer picture of the tragic queen than that seen in previous studies; his findings will also be seen in an upcoming BBC-TV series on Mary. Dolan won the book with a strong North American rights bid to agent Emma Parry at Carlisle & Company.
