Phoebe-Lou Adams, a former editor and book reviewer for the Atlantic Monthly, died on December 21 in Connecticut. She was 83. After brief stints as a librarian and a cub reporter at other publications, Adams was named assistant to the managing editor of the Atlantic Monthly in 1945. Shortly thereafter, she became manuscript reader, then poetry editor and sometime travel writer. In 1952, she began writing monthly book reviews; by the time of her retirement two years ago, she had reviewed more than 4,000 books. She is author of one book, A Rough Map of Greece, published in 1965.
